This research lens captures another long-standing vital research area within our community: adaptiveness of governance, the dynamics of flexibility versus stability in engaging with earth system transformations. This is combined with the notion of reflexivity, to capture the challenging idea that governance has to build in greater capacities and mechanisms to reflect on its own experiences and to change its values and practices accordingly.
