Scholars are invited to join the ESG endorsed event GLOBALGOALS2020, an International Research Symposium, held 10-11 June 2020 in Utrecht, the Netherlands. In 2015, the international community adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals as part of a global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aiming at nothing less than ‘Transforming Our World’. There is uncertainty whether this prominent example of global goal-setting, as a new central approach in global governance, can help resolve the pressing challenges of economic development, poverty eradication, social justice, and global environmental protection. The Symposium is designed as a premier knowledge stocktaking exercise on the steering effects of ‘governance through goals’. This high-level academic event will bring together around 100 researchers from the social sciences focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals as a novel mechanism of global and national governance.
