Johanna Leino
When did you join the ESG Network, and what motivated you to get involved?
My first experience with the ESG network was at the Toronto conference in October 2022. It was the first time I got to deep dive into an international research community that not only focuses on the same topics that I am passionate about in my research but also feels welcoming and inclusive. After the conference, I wanted to participate in strengthening the network and decided to join as a Research Fellow. We also had such a good time getting to know each other with the ESG Early Career Researchers in Toronto, so I created a LinkedIn group for the ESG Early Career Community to stay in touch and share opportunities, resources, and support.
What is the most useful piece of advice you have received as an Early Career Scholar?
Remember to take time to rest and reset your brain. At this career stage, the pressure to say ‘yes’ to everything and to exceed expectations at every task you do can be overwhelming. Yes, we are ambitious, and we want to do well. At the same time, taking the time to detach from and enjoy life outside of work serves your creativity and health – both crucial for your success.
