Dr. Eleftheria Vasileiadou

VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Eleftheria Vasileiadou is Assistant Professor in Science, Technology and Public Policy at the Institute for Environmental Studies, the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds a BA in Journalism and Mass Media (Aristotle University Thessaloniki), an MA in European Communication Studies (Universiteit van Amsterdam) and a PhD in social and behavioural sciences (ASCoR, Universiteit van Amsterdam). Her background is at the intersection of communication studies and science, technology and innovation studies. Her research interests include:

  • Distributed governance of environmental issues: She is currently working on a project on adaptation options for extreme weather events in the Netherlands, by bringing together different societal actors and climate modelers. Within this project, the identification of perceptions of risks by different societal actors is very important. She has also worked on a major European project ADAM on the role of stakeholder consultations in the EU energy policy, and how participatory processes are organized within the European Commission.
  • Science production and communication: She has been working on various European projects on the use and impact of ICTs in science (digital science, e-science), management of collaborative research, the role of scientific intermediaries. She iscurrently involved in a project on how geo-engineering research as post-normal science can be governed.
  • Complexity theory and methodology: She has been working on methodological aspects of complex adaptive systems, namely on how can we operationalise positive and negative feedback loops with ARIMA modeling. She has also applied complexity theory and insights on sustainability transitions theory, to provide a research agenda.
