Sander Chan MA is a doctoral candidate in international environmental governance at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at the institute for Environmental Studies at VU University Amsterdam. Chan is also a research fellow under the EU Science and Technology Fellowship Programme in China, based at the School for Environment and Environmental Resources of Renmin University of China, Beijing. He is currently conducting research on the emergence, effectiveness and legitimacy of public-private and private-private governance arrangements in China’s sustainability policy. Chan coordinates the China Network of the Earth System Governance Project, a core research project of the International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP). In 2009 he initiated the first EU-Earth System Governance Roundtable on the Future of Environmental Governance in China.
