Stacy Lynn, PhD, is a Research Scientist at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory (NREL) in Colorado State University’s (CSU) Warner College of Natural Resources, and a faculty affiliate of the Center for Disaster and Risk Analysis (CDRA), also at CSU. She received her PhD in Ecology and her MSc in Rangeland Ecosystem Science, both at CSU. Dr. Lynn’s research focuses on human-wildlife interactions in Africa, and finding balance between conservation and livelihoods in drylands where drought is a frequent occurrence and conservation policies can limit local resilience and coping mechanisms. Her past research in Tanzania has explored the implications of increasing cultivation by Maasai pastoralists for both Maasai livelihoods and migratory wildlife, and implications of conservation policy for livelihoods. Dr. Lynn is currently interested in how pastoralists perceive risk and how they negotiate land use policies to respond to droughts and other livelihood shocks. She is also interested in how pastoral risks interplay (both on the ground and in the political arena) with the risks and needs of migratory wildlife populations.
