Dr. Md. Jakerul Abedin is Joint Secretary in the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division (LPAD) of Bangladesh. As one of the wing heads of LPAD, he looks after legal and legislative businesses of eight ministries and divisions of Bangladesh government, and represents the law ministry in governing bodies of a number of statutory authorities.

Dr. Abedin has a PhD degree in Law from Macquarie University of Australia with International Macquarie University Research Excellence Scholarship (iMQRES) in 2013, a second Master of International Trade Law (MITL) degree from University of Technology Sydney in 2007, first Master of Law and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Rajshahi. He was a UNITAR fellow of International Law. Prior to joining in the civil service in 2000, he was a practicing lawyer in lower court and high court of Bangladesh. He worked as a casual academic staff in Macquarie University and Western Sydney University law school. He awarded certificates in Foundations in Learning and Teaching (FILT), Teaching Induction Program (TIP) and advanced Legal Research from Australia. He presented conference and seminar papers in different forum and universities in the area of international water and environmental law. He also published good number of academic works in the same area.

He is reviewer of few law journals, including Transnational Corporations Review (TNCR), International Journal of Climate Change: Impacts and Responses and Journal of Water Policy. He is part time legal academics of Southeast University and Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh. He has more than 19 years of practical experience in different persona, such as lawyer, legislative drafting officials (working on different type’s legislative instruments), parliamentary counsel, policy analyst, legal researcher and legal academics. He is a full member of CALC and external research fellow of International Earth Systems Governance.
