About

Sandra van der Hel is a PhD candidate with the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. Her research focusses on the role of science in governance for sustainability. She is interested in the notion of ‘science for global sustainability’ and the political role of science in society. In this context, Sandra studies the emergence and institutionalisation of new design principles for research on sustainability such as solution-orientation, interdisciplinarity, geographical inclusiveness and knowledge co-production. The empirical focus of her research is the recently established international research programme “Future Earth”.

Before joining the Copernicus Institute, Sandra worked at the Institute for Enviromental Studies (IVM) of the VU University Amsterdam. She holds a MSc in Social Research from the VU University Amsterdam and a BSc in Future Planet Studies from the University of Amsterdam.
