Call for Volunteers – 2026 Bath Conference on Earth System Governance

About the Conference

The University of Bath will host the 2026 Bath Conference on Earth System Governance from 7–11 September 2026, welcoming approximately 400-500 researchers, policymakers, practitioners and students from around the world to discuss sustainability, governance and global environmental challenges. The conference will take place across several venues in Bath city centre and on the University campus.

Opportunity

We are seeking enthusiastic conference volunteers to help deliver an international conference experience for participants from over 70 countries.

This role offers an opportunity to:

  • Gain event management experience
  • Develop professional and intercultural skills
  • Meet international researchers and practitioners
  • Support a major global conference
  • Attend selected conference sessions alongside volunteering duties

Responsibilities

Volunteers may be assigned to:

  • Participant registration and information desks
  • Session support
  • Participant wayfinding between venues
  • Support catering & hospitality
  • Photography

Roles will rotate throughout the conference. Please see more details in Volunteer Functions.

Person Specification

We welcome applications from:

  • Students registered at University of Bath or other higher education institutions
  • Interested in sustainability and environmental governance

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • Friendly and professional communication skills
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Confidence interacting with international visitors
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Interest in sustainability, policy, international development, governance, or events (desirable)

Time Commitment

Volunteers should be available for:

  • Volunteer briefing and training session
  • A minimum of three shifts during 7–11 September 2026
