This two-day event brought together scholars and practitioners to critically assess the development of earth system law, identify its real-world applications, and help shape a future research and policy agenda.
The symposium on 12 November at Wageningen University and Research examined the state of earth system law as a response to the structural shortcomings of traditional environmental law. It explored its conceptual evolution, assessed its emerging forms and practices, and considered how it might be applied to real-world sustainability challenges. The event was held in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online participation available.
The author workshop on 13 November, hosted at Utrecht University’s Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, focused on co-developing a perspective paper synthesizing insights from the symposium. This was an in-person event only, and all participants were invited as co-authors on the paper intended for publication in a high-impact journal.
