The Earth System Governance (ESG) Project’s South-South Initiative and the ESG Research Centre Brasília invite you to join this webinar to discuss the “Global South” perspective within the ESG network.
When? 6 March 2026, 08.30-10.30 BST, 12.30-14.30 CET, 17.00-19.00 IST
Where? Zoom
The webinar builds on the article “Where is the ‘Global South’ located in scientific research?” by Mazzega et al. (2025) and explores the question: “How is the Global South positioned within the ESG Network?”. This article is part of the recently completed Special Issue titled “Locating the ‘Global South’ in Earth System Governance”, published in the Earth System Governance Journal and edited by members of ESG Project.
Understanding how the “Global South” is represented, engaged, and positioned within the global research networks is essential for fostering more inclusive, equitable, and diverse knowledge production in earth system governance. Reflecting critically on our own network, the ESG network, helps identity structural gaps and opportunities for more meaningful South-South, North-South, and triangular exchanges.
During the webinar, participants will have an opportunity to learn more about the ESG Project, its South-South Initiative, the Special Issue and the article that frames the discussion. They will also be invited to share their inputs via Mentimeter, which will inform the South-South Initiative’s planning and strategy development.
