The Swedish Secretariat for Environmental Earth System Sciences (SSEESS) in collaboration with the Earth System Governance International Project Office is organizing a workshop that centres on the science plan of the Earth System Governance Project.

The overall goal of the workshop is to stimulate the engagement of Swedish researchers in international global environmental change research programs, in particular related to the current development of the new 10-year international research initiative Future Earth.

The workshop will provide a focused platform to inform Swedish researchers on the work of the Earth System Governance Project, strengthen their contribution to the Earth System Governance research agenda, and to stimulate research and research opportunities related to the Earth System Governance Science Plan.

Programme

The two day workshop will include:

Introductions to earth system governance research (past, present and planned), the organisation of the Earth System Governance Project (ESG); and a briefing on the new global research initiative Future Earth;

Presentations by researchers on on-going and planned research activities that will benefit from involvement of Swedish colleagues and also function as useful stepping stones for interested Swedish researchers to join the global ESG research alliance;

Plenary and working group discussions on earth system governance research and research opportunities within the Earth System Governance Project for Swedish researchers;

Exploration and development of future collaborative research activities and funding proposals;

The workshop aim to offer all the participants the possibility to take part in a joint publication in Ambio, based on the discussions from the workshop.

The programme of the workshop allows for additional presentations of relevant research. If you would like to present your work at the workshop, please contact the Earth System Governance International project Office at ipo@earthsystemgovernance.org.

Who is it for?

The workshop is open for researchers affiliated with Swedish research institutions and programs, researcher active or interested in global environmental change and earth system governance research.

It is also open for representatives from the Earth System Governance Project and other global environmental change programmes and funding agencies.

Registration

The workshop will be free of charge for Sweden based researchers but the number of participants is limited and registration is required.
