The Earth System Governance (ESG) Working Group on Democracy is looking for two co-conveners to help energize the group and its activities.
Are you researching questions of democracy, power and legitimacy, and how these relate to the challenges of governing contemporary social-ecological interactions? The ESG Working Group on Democracy is seeking two new co-conveners to help revive and strengthen the Working Group.
As a team, the co-convenors are responsible for:
- Planning for the group’s direction, meetings and activities
- Inviting new members and managing the group’s mailing list and member records
- Coordinating and contributing to co-authored publications by the group
- Supporting early-career researchers in the group
- Participating in the ESG Project’s annual meeting with other groups
- Liaising with the ESG Project International Office regarding website updates and the group’s annual report
- Representing the group in relevant occasions, such as working groups and taskforces meetings, and annual conferences
Please note that these are volunteer, unpaid positions, but they provide excellent opportunities for networking, leadership and collaboration, and a strong addition to your CV.
Required qualifications
- Track record in research and publication in the themes of democracy, inclusion, participation democratic accountability, and similar subfields of ESG governance
- Already being, or willingness to become, at least a Research Fellow of the ESG network
- Ability to commit time and effort to support the group, probably for a few hours each week on average (NB: the hours per week will be decided in collaboration with the co-conveners)
Preferred qualifications
- Some experience in organizing academic events, or research networks
- Some experience of interdisciplinary projects or collaborations
