The authors were selected through an open call. Given the large number of applicants, we were unable to provide individual feedback to everyone. However, everyone who applied received a statement on the selection process and how the criteria from the call for authors were applied:
The principal criterion for selection was a demonstrated track record of active engagement in the Earth System Governance Project. Further consideration was given to ensuring balance with respect to gender and geographical representation, as well as disciplinary and methodological diversity and a range of career stages across the author team, considering the applicant pool and their levels of engagement within the community. In cases where multiple candidates had strong but overlapping profiles, those with more extensive engagement in ESG activities were selected.
