Justice is a core dimension of any effort to analyse earth system governance and the political responses to the rapid transformation of our planetary systems.

This Special Issue of the Earth System Governance Journal is the first collection of studies to offer systematic and detailed conceptualisations of ‘planetary justice’, and it is the first to place the justice discourse in the broader debate on planetary stewardship, earth system transformation and earth system governance.

We see this Special Issue as a starting point for a larger debate on planetary justice in our communities and hope that Earth System Governance will remain the journal of choice for analytical, normative and policy-driven interventions in this field.
