About

Abe Hendriks is a PhD candidate at the University of Groningen, Campus Fryslân (the Netherlands) and Ghent University, Center for Sustainable Development (Belgium). His doctorate research focuses on how the circular economy is imagined as a desirable future in different regions in Sweden in the Netherlands. The explicit focus on regional imaginaries is to advance the understanding of how multiple imaginaries of desirable futures exist within countries, and how those different imaginaries compete and relate to each other.

His theoretical work focuses mainly on the politics and power in imagined futures by drawing upon a wide variety of fields including future studies, sociology of science and technology, sustainability transitions and organizational studies. Next to his research, Abe contributes to transdisciplinary teaching by working with students on collaborative projects with governmental organisations in rural living lab contexts.
