About

Dr. Cameron Allen is an interdisciplinary sustainability scientist and a Senior Research Fellow and ARC DECRA Fellow at Monash University’s Sustainability Transitions Lab.

Cameron has worked for more than two decades with research institutes, governments and the United Nations to advance sustainable development. This includes working extensively with countries around the world to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and policies to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions. While working with the UN and international organizations, he did postings in New York, Geneva, Beirut and Buenos Aires.

Cameron is the recipient of several prestigious national research grants, including a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council (ARC) on the socio-technical dynamics, tipping points and acceleration in sustainability transitions, and an ARC Discovery Project on modeling post-growth futures. Cameron has also led a range of research projects with governments, the UN and industry partners in Australia and the region, and he is the lead researcher for the ‘Transforming Australia’ project which evaluates Australia’s progress on the SDGs.

His research has made important advancements in tools and governance approaches for long-term integrated decision making and for understanding policy co-benefits and trade-offs. He also studies the drivers, enablers and barriers of sustainable development transformations to translate insights for governance and policy. The impact of his research is evidenced through publications in world-leading interdisciplinary journals including Science, Nature, Nature Sustainability, Nature Communications, Global Sustainability, and One Earth.
