Dr. Carel Dieperink (1960) graduated in Public Administration and Water and Environmental governance (PhD-thesis on the international Rhine water quality regime, 1997). His research can be summarized under the heading Multilevel water governance and focuses on the interplay between different societal actors dealing with water issues. On-going projects concern the implementation of European Union policies (the Water Framework and Flood Directives, integrated coastal zone management), international river basin management (development of the regime for climate adaption in the Rhine catchment area), groundwater governance in Vietnam and the use of ICT-applications in urban water governance. As senior lecturer he coordinates the Earth System Governance track of the Master Program Sustainable Development and teaches courses in this Program, but also in the Master Program Water Science and Management and Bachelor Programs Environmental Studies, Environmental Sciences and Global Sustainability Science.
