James Boafo is a Lecturer in sustainability and a Research Fellow at the Indo-Pacific Research Centre, Murdoch University. He holds a PhD in Environment and Development from the University of Queensland, Australia, as well as an MPhil and BA (Hons) in Geography and Rural Development from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. Jame’s research focuses on sustainability transitions, with particular attention to climate and energy transitions, critical minerals, and just transitions. Trained as a human geographer and political ecologist, he explores human-environment interactions through the lenses of political ecology and political economy. James has published in leading academic journals in his field, including Resources Policy, Energy Research and Social Science, Climate and Development, Habitat International, and Geo: Geography and Environment. Alongside academic publishing, James actively pursues translational research to broaden the impact of his work. He is a regular contributor to The Conversation, where he helps bridge academic research and public debate for wider audiences. In recognition of his research excellence and broader contributions, James received Murdoch University’s Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Award in 2025. He currently serves as an Associate Editor for Climate Policy, a top-ranked Q1 Journal.
