Jan Aart Scholte is Professor in Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick, associated with the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation. 

Scholte’s current research focuses on questions of governing a more global world, with particular emphasis on democracy in this context. In 2008-12 he is coordinating a major international project on ‘Building Global Democracy’, with a core grant from the Ford Foundation, together with co-conveners in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America and the Pacific. The project is generating publications volumes on subjects such as conceptualizing global democracy, learning for global democracy, including the excluded in global politics, and structural redistribution for global democracy. 

Scholte has published extensively on globalisation, global governance and civil society in global politics. He serves on the advisory boards of various institutes and programmes in global(isation) and regional(isation) studies. He is also a former editor of the journal Global Governance (2005-9).
