Matteo De Donà is a researcher affiliated with the Department of Political Science at Lund University. He holds a PhD in Environmental Social Science from the University of Gothenburg. His interdisciplinary background straddles the fields of International Relations (IR) and Science & Technology Studies (STS).
While Matteo’s research focuses on a wide range of global governance actors and institutions, his main field of expertise is the relation between science and policy in global environmental and sustainability governance. He is particularly interested in epistemic agency and mechanisms of knowledge production within intergovernmental organizations.
Matteo embraces an interpretive epistemological approach and primarily employs qualitative methods. Drawing on concepts stemming from both the IR and STS traditions, Matteo’s research has led him to a range of theoretical contributions, including the notion of ‘intergovernmental epistemologies’.
Matteo is also very familiar with the policy sphere. Prior to his academic career, he worked in different international organizations and applied research institutes. This has enabled him to contribute both academic and policy-oriented outputs on the so-called ‘science-policy interface’ (SPI).
