Melodie Ruwet is a PhD candidate in International Relations at Griffith University. Her thesis focuses interrogates the oceans as political space and large-scale marine conservation projects. She is particularly interested in sovereignty issues related to ocean spaces. Her broader area of research falls into ocean governance, sovereignty issues, small states and the politics of conservation.

Melodie holds a BA in Political Science (with minor in Chinese studies) and a MA in International Relations from the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), Belgium. Previous to her PhD, she worked as a consultant at the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN-ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile.
