Pradeep Nair is a Senior Research Fellow in Earth System Governance Project at the Uppsala University, Sweden. He is a Professor of New Media Studies at Central University of Himachal Pradesh, India. He is the Director Research of the University. A Future Earth Coasts Fellow at Future Earth, he is an Expert at UNESCO Policy Inclusive Lab. He is a Working Group member of European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) Action CA22122 – Rethinking the Blue Economy: Socio-Ecological Impacts and Opportunities, which centres on the blue economy and related polices affecting European societies.
His study focuses on Climate and Health Nexus, Climate Change Impacts, Adaptation, Resilience, Governance and Policy. With a background in health promotion, governance and policy studies, his research focus is on policy dynamics of cross-cutting societal issues, particularly the transformation of health systems to be climate-resilient, low carbon, sustainable and equitable.
He mainly works in close partnership with indigenous peoples, local communities, healthcare workers and practitioners for improving the ability of health systems to anticipate and implement adaptation intervention against climate-sensitive disease and health risks, including by bolstering climate-information services, surveillance, early warning and response systems and a climate-ready workforce. His expertise in this area stems from his ability to work on the ground in meaningful ways with partners in government, industry, local communities and NGOs, and to connect that work to influence global policy, market and finance to advance work at scale. While working with working groups and think-tanks he convenes regularly with diverse line-ministries and stakeholders to foster synergies and strengthen national and multilateral collaboration on climate change and health.
He is a Gender and Climate Technology Expert affiliated to the United Nations Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) which facilitates the connection between countries and climate technology solutions, expediting development and technology transfers for low-carbon and climate-resilient initiatives at the demand of developing countries. He is a member of Group on Earth Observations (GEO) Working Group on Climate Change which crafts and implements GEO strategy for climate action as well as promoting earth observations for adaptation and mitigation in line with the Paris Agreement goals. He is an Expert of the United Nations Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment and is on the Roster of Experts of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). He is affiliated as a Scholar with Climate Social Science Network at the Institute at Brown for Environment and Society (IBES), Brown University, USA and is a Global Outreach – Contributing Member of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) for the year 2024-2025.
He serves as a Reviewer for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR), United Kingdom (UK) and has served as a grant reviewer for the National Sea Grant Office, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), US Department of Commerce for the year 2024. He is an External Reviewer in selecting research proposals for funding for Asia-Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN) Capacity Development Committee under the Scientific Capacity Development Programme (CAPaBLE).
