Scott Janzwood is a doctoral candidate at the Balsillie School of International Affairs at the University of Waterloo where his research examines the ways that scientists and policymakers collaborate to address global catastrophic risks (GCRs) such as infectious disease outbreaks and extreme climate events. His research explores the intervening role of deep uncertainty and the approaches used by experts and decision makers to manage it. His dissertation focuses on the issue of research prioritization and agenda-setting in infectious disease, climate, and planetary defense governance. He has also contributed to projects on institutional design for GCR governance and improving foresight in the public sector.
