Born and raised in a remote wetland village in northeastern Bangladesh, I gained first-hand knowledge and experience about the complex dynamics of common-pool resource governance at the intersection of state regulations and local livelihood realities. I hold academic training in Forestry (Bangladesh) and Natural Resource Management (Sweden), and a PhD in Human Geography from the University of Calgary, Canada.
My research spans the broad spectrum of forest governance and conservation politics, exploring formal and informal power relations in protected area management and rural livelihoods, emerging nature–society relations under carbon and REDD+ regimes, human–tiger (wildlife) conflicts, and climate justice through the perspectives of political ecology lens and decolonial scholarship, with a geographic focus in Bangladesh, India, Canada, and West Africa.
I am a strong advocate for equitable conservation and transformative change through community-based research and collective actions. Looking forward to co-learning opportunities and engaging with early-career researchers, scholars, and practitioners to address the complex environmental sustainability challenges of our time.
