Sumartono Darmanto is a Ph.D. Candidate in Ecology, specialising in Climate Change Economics at the Department of Earth System Science, Tsinghua University (China). His research is on China’s Clean Air Policy and International Climate Governance.
He is a 2015 Mason Fellow and graduated with a Master in Public Administration from Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government (USA). He obtained his MBA in International Economics and Management from SDA Bocconi (Italy) and B.S. in Civil Engineering, specialising in Water and the Environment from Seatlle University (USA).
He previously worked as Senior Advisor for Strategic Economic Affairs at the Executive Office of the President, Republic of Indonesia, where he managed the Economic Diplomacy, Business Economics and Nation Branding Indonesia portfolios, and led inter-ministerial teams. In his recent role as Senior Advisor for Government of Indonesia’s Prakerja priority program, Mr. Darmanto represented Indonesia at various UN Conferences and high-level meetings in UNHQ, Morocco and South Korea. He built good relationships and developed collaborations with UNESCO, UNDESA, UNSGSA and others. He initiated and co-organized the 2023 UNESCO Inclusive Lifelong Learning Conference in Bali, Indonesia.
