Governance ‘of’ and ‘for’ the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

Description

This project addresses the key issues related to governance and the SDGs in the preparation and implementation of the post-2015 agenda. It aims to discuss and communicate the role of science and governance ‘of’ and ‘for’ the SDGs to a broad audience. Key tasks are also to identify points where expert consensus emerges and to find new ideas through interaction between governance researchers and policy makers.

The Earth System Governance Project’s dedicated knowledge portal on the SDGs for the post-2015 development agenda and beyond is SDG.earthsystemgovernance.org. The website serves the purpose both as a repository of publications and opinion pieces as well as information on relevant events. The website and social media activities aim to bring a strong online presence with unique, high-quality content as a vital element in emphasizing the importance of sound science-based governance and policy making in the SDG process.

While essentially a scientific effort, the Earth System Governance Project also aims to assist policy responses to pressing problems of earth system transformation. Therefore, the Earth System Governance Project strives to deliver key-point policy briefs on the development and implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. Find all of our published policy briefs on our website SDG.earthsystemgovernance.org.

The research on SDGs by the Earth System Governance Project is coordinated by the Earth System Governance Tokyo Research Center, which is co-organized by Tokyo Institute of Technology and UNU-IAS, with funding from the S-11 research project entitled Project on Sustainability Transformation Beyond 2015 (POST-2015) of the Ministry of Environment, Japan.
