The Earth System Governance Project endorses the Groningen Sustainability Conference 2027 “Lessons from the SDGs for the post-2030 Agenda”, scheduled to take place on 5-10 April 2027 on Zernike Campus, Groningen, the Netherlands.
The Groningen Sustainability Conference (GSC) 2027 contributes to the ESGP research agenda related to the Taskforce on the Sustainable Development Goals. The Taskforce brings together an interdisciplinary global group of scholars and practitioners to advance the scientific understanding of ‘governance by global goals’ and, in particular, the steering effects of the Sustainable Development Goals. Against this backdrop, the GSC 2027 provides a platform to reflect on the lessons of the SDGs and to engage in forward-looking dialogue on the transformations still ahead. By bringing together science, academia, civil society, the private sector, policy, and governance, it stocktakes lessons learned from the SDGs to inform renewed actions that accelerate progress toward the SDGs and make the post-2030 agenda more science-based, inclusive, and SMART. Alongside reflection on the SDGs, the conference will engage with the major transformations shaping sustainable futures beyond 2030, including resilient societies, climate action, health and well-being, and the opportunities and risks of AI and digitalization.
