Professor Gordon is Director of the Institute for Environment and Sanitation Studies at the University of Ghana. He holds a PhD in Human Environmental Sciences from King’s College, University of London, a M.Sc. and B.Sc in Zoology from the University of Ghana, Legon, as well as a Post-Graduate Certificate in Limnology (UNESCO/Austrian Academy of Sciences). His research interests include climate change policy, management of mangroves and coastal systems and use of ecosystem based approaches to adaptation.
He has been an active member of international advisory committees on global change and environmental issues including member of the Africa Interim Scientific Steering Committee for Future Earth as well as provided UNEP Expert input to the UNEP Post-2015 Discussion Paper; the UNEP Foresight Expert Panel and UNEP PRO-VIA Steering Committee. He has served as Executive Vice President of the International Society of Limnology; Member PACOM (Pan African Committee of START) as well as Vice-President of Wetlands International.
On the national arena, he has coordinated the development of Ghana National Climate Change Policy for the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation as well as chairing the Environmental Committee for the Ghana Standards Authority.
Prof Gordon has received a number of awards including Environmentalist of the Year from the Ministry of Environment and Science in Ghana, as well as the Distinguished Award for Meritorious Service from the University of Ghana, Legon, and the Parker-Gentry Award for Conservation Biology from the Field Museum, Chicago, USA.
