Democracy is closely related to questions of transparency, accountability, legitimacy - all long-standing important components of ESG research. Whether it is about the possibility or desirability of forms of global democracy or ecological democracy or the implications of authoritarianism, the questions are timely and urgent. Coupling power with democracy offers important ways to scrutinize where power resides in the design and functioning of democratic and non-democratic arrangements.
